I think it is safe to say that there is nothing the President could do that would be non-controversial, given the hyper-partisan attitudes which Republicans have brought to the game since Newt Gingrich's Contract on America in 1994. From their point of view, all that matters is regaining absolute power, whatever the cost. “Maybe spending time talking about some of the less controversial aspects of his administration would help.”
