Worthy Reading
June 17, 2009
I’ve got two articles worth sharing today.
The first is a great post from Keep Houston Houston (thanks to Mike Snyder for pointing this one out to me). In it, KHH explains very clearly one of the problems with city-building: cities are not designed, they are grown. Because cities are alive they are naturally changing all the time. Change is an inevitable and healthy function of a city, and without it the city can become stagnant, and even die. See Detroit for a good example of this phenomenon.
The second is an editorial from The Bryan/College Station Eagle concerning the recent turmoil at Texas A&M. As an alumnus of the university I have to say I am both frustrated and embarrassed by the regents’ treatment of Dr. Murano, and their very public bungling of the entire situation. I think the article sums up what needs to be done very well, with one exception – System Chancellor Mike McKinney should resign his position immediately. His conduct has been entirely inapporpriate and has embarrassed the entire university community.
Both articles are worth reading top to bottom, I hope you all take a look.
