There’s a new kind of green in the Army…

I found this article really interesting… apparently there’s been a notable uptick of environmental consciousness in the US and British militaries. The two are taking major steps to increase fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions, steps they believe are saving lives.

“We will pay to reduce greenhouse gas emissions today, or we will pay the price in military terms later on,” said General Anthony Zinni, a former commander of American forces in the Middle East, at the launch two years ago of a report that concluded that global warming was a “threat multiplier”, creating breeding grounds for terrorism.

The article is worth a read if you’re interested in such things. I had no idea this attitude existed at such a high level in the military.
