		<description>They offered a similar story a few weeks ago on &quot;This American Life&quot; (NPR).  A judge in Florida requires apprehended thieves to spend several hours walking around in front of the store they stole from with a sign that says, &quot;I stole from this store.&quot;

What impresses me most is that in Germany the justice system is *thinking* about the effectiveness of what they are doing.  I think in general, justice departments do far too little of this.</description>
