I lived in Portland for about a year and a half in the mid-90s. When you read some Houston bloggers when they write about Portland, it sounds like Portland is a total hellhole. The thing is, the opposite is true. The weather sure does suck (rain 3/4 of the year) but aside from that, I loved living in Portland. It was fun, easy to get around (by car or by transit--I used both equally), compact, and spectacular nature was nearby. It had great street life and great neighborhoods.

So Houston bloggers, if you are going to put down Portland, you really have to make an argument that despite the fact that it is a very pleasant place to live, it sucks! I think that's a hard argument to make, frankly!
