Last post for the work week, I decided to preview some information about the upcoming Tour De Houston.
The Tour is a significant cycling event, with routes of 20, 40, and 70 miles covering significant chunks of central Houston. It looks like it’s going to be a lot of fun, and I’m pretty sure I’m going to ride in it.
All the basic information is availableĀ here.
Quoting the web site:
The Guaranty Bank Tour de Houston began as an idea that came to the Mayor from State Senator Rodney Ellis who participated in a five Burroughs ride in New York City. He enjoyed being able to see the historic areas of New York by bicycle and thought that Houstonās historic districts could offer bicycle enthusiasts a great experience as well. Mayor White loved the idea because it provides a wonderful civic bonding experience for Houstonians and also promotes clean air and a healthy lifestyle.
The one major beef I have with the site is they don’t have a very good map of the routes, it took me quite a bit of reading and tracing my finger on a map to see exactly where they’re going. Being the generous soul that I occasionally am, I decided to save everyone else this trouble by making a more user-friendly map on Google.

It looks like a pretty nice ride, especially the 40 miler. The only issue I’d raise with it is why they spend so long on Elisian / Hardy. That’s a pretty boring stretch compared to most of the other places the route goes, why not spend a little more time in and around Rice, or take a jaunt down Memorial Drive?
Anyhow, I’m pretty psyched about the tour, so I’ll post a few updates as I try to prep for it.

Now then, about that teaser:
The last two months have been great here at neoHOUSTON, and we’re looking forward to even better months ahead. We’ve got a pretty cool announcement coming over the weekend. That’s all I’m going to say about it for now, but I think all of our readers are going to like it. So stay tuned, have a great weekend, and thanks for reading!

THe 40 miler is a predominently “out and back” course. Should it be renamed “Half de Tour”?
