neoHOUSTON update

You may notice that things look a little different on the page this afternoon. neoHOUSTON is celebrating it’s 6th month in existence, and there are a few changes coming that I hope you’ll all enjoy.

First, I’d like to introduce a new contributing author. David Morris is a good friend of mine and a very sharp guy who has a knack for knowing what’s going on in and around Houston. Dave is also an insightful urbanist with lots of experience traveling the world. Dave will bring a slightly different voice to the blog, one that I think will be a welcome addition.

Second, we’ve introduced a new theme to the blog. This one is a little wider, which means stories don’t require so much scrolling to read. The skyline is missing from the top of the page, but we’ve gained a feature that records who authored a post. Now that we have multiple authors, this will come in handy. Besides, I bet we find a way to get a shiny new picture up there soon!

Lastly, we’ve expanded the categories under which posts fall, and from now on will be using this improved system to help organize the content of the blog. The four categories we’ll be using are:

  1. Daily: These are the day to day posts covering local and national news with light commentary. A subset of this category is “Newswire,” which we will use for headline round-up posts.
  2. Features: These are posts in which we examine an issue in more depth, and often explain and/or defend the position or point-of-view of the authors.
  3. Houston Discovered: This is a new category which Dave came up with, the first article will go live tomorrow. Posts in this category will explore the city and share some of the best, most unique things to see and do here in Houston.
  4. Houston Reimagined: These are the blog’s signature posts, articles in which we take a hard look at the urban form of Houston and how it can be improved.

We hope you enjoy the changes that are being implemented, and look forward to the next six months of neoHOUSTON.
