First off, new homes being built in the path of the proposed Grand Parkway… (Wrap up from Kuffner)
Basically, builders and developers are out there doing their thing right in the way of the proposed Grand Parkway alignment. This begs the question:
What the hell is Harris County or the City of Houston doing issuing building permits there!?!
I realize that they don’t have the money to go buy up the route in advance, but come on! How hard is it to put some sort of reserve overlay there for the future road?
As is, when people want to develop in the way of a planned major throughfare they have to either build the road or go through an ammendment process to get permission to block its future route. Why on earth would the same logic not be extended to FREEWAYS that are planned?
This is all a fat lot of garbage, and a major failure on the part of our various governments in the jurisdictions involved. Land use and transportation are inextricably linked, and continuing to pretend otherwise just puts more people in the path of the bulldozer when the time comes to build critical infrastructure.
Sheesh!
